Freeness bows out.

Freeness has given innovative UK music makers the opportunity to show that their creative endeavour has value in and of itself, regardless of categories and expectations imposed from outside.  We have been successful in giving these musical innovators a non-judgemental, non-profit making avenue for expression and exposure.

We worked hard to direct funds towards our aim of creating opportunities for these musical expressions to be heard. We have enjoyed the journey, in particular meeting the many determined souls whose music we believe in.

The formation of Icebox to carry out the Freeness project was a response to particular pressures in the music industry, but also to opportunities in the funding world that then existed. We never wanted to be subject to the vagaries of the funding world, but wished above all to keep our vision intact. Inevitably, things change and we feel this is a good time to stop and take stock of all that we have achieved.

We know that we have inspired others to carry on the very important work of making original and beautiful music, as well as making opportunities for such music to be heard.

We would like to thank the following for their funds, in kind support and generous donations: The Arts Council of England, Decibel, Bloomberg, The Observer Music Monthly magazine.

Peace and musical blessings from everyone at Icebox / Freeness.
